California State University San Marcos Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Makes Higher Education Accessible
Jenzabar Higher Reach Supports Continuing Education of Nontraditional Students
California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is on a mission to make higher education available to all members of their community. While extended learning programs are becoming increasingly fixed in the educational landscape, CSUSM is taking it a step further; rather than bringing nontraditional learners onto their campus, they’re bringing their campus to the nontraditional learners in their community. Nowhere is this more apparent than at their Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).
Meeting the Needs of Nontraditional Students
Exclusively serving adult learners, the OLLI at CSUSM currently provides classes to over 700 students across a spectrum of disciplines. The institute often hosts its classes in recreational and retirement facilities out in the community. “We’re different than other parts of the university because most of our classes are off-campus,” says Sherie Cambra, Program Director of OLLI at CSUSM. “We actually bring our program out to the people.”
