Did you know that Jenzabar translates to “the class of the best and the brightest?” As I reflect on a year that has felt, at times, darkened by current events, I am inspired by our founding words. I believe it is important, now more than ever, to seek out the best and the brightest. So, in keeping with the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to recognize the many bright things for which I’m grateful.
First and foremost, like many of you, I am grateful for family, including our incredible Jenzabar family of associates, clients, friends, and all the passionate men and women working in higher education today. Every day, Jenzabar associates go above and beyond, acting as higher education’s trusted advisors—helping higher education institutions of every sort shine. I am most pleased that our associates always earn your highest ratings in our customer satisfaction surveys.
I am grateful for the challenges that make us better. It’s no secret that our industry is changing. Yet, as is often the case, change has a tendency to bring out the best in us. Nowhere is this idiom truer than in higher education. Institutions across the world are tackling change with matchless persistence, innovation, and invention. Yes, technology plays a pivotal role, but ultimately it is the inventive and pioneering spirit of people that carries the most impact.
This year has passed with startling speed. Yet, there were days that went too slowly. Too often, we saw devastating headlines of tragic events happening throughout our country and world. I solemnly and gratefully recognize the brave, selfless, and kind men and women who responded to the events of this year with courage and heroism. For each of them, I am profoundly grateful.
There is an old adage that says the darker the night, the brighter the stars. At its best, higher education is this bright light that outshines the darkness. I am inspired, now more than ever, to ensure this light burns brighter than ever before.
One way I plan to do this is through the continuation of the Jenzabar Internship Program. In 2017, Jenzabar sponsored 50 interns to work in an office on their campus. We’ve received glowing reports, highlighting their outstanding work at their institutions. Due to the program’s unprecedented success, we are thrilled to be offering it again in 2018. Stay tuned for more details in December.
As the year draws to a close, I look forward to working with each and every one of you as we continue to make higher education brighter than ever.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
