Cloud Computing and Managed Services Expert
|Carina:||How did you get started in higher education?|
|Gus:||After working in the government and private sector for about 10 years, I returned to graduate school in my 30s. I was then hired by my school as the Operations Manager for all of the non-Academic departments. I like to say to I was responsible for everything except teaching the classes and handling the cash. My combination of technical background and business and management experience kept me focused on figuring out how to leverage technology to do more with less, which is part of the higher education funding reality.|
|Carina:||Why cloud and managed services?|
|Gus:||Since starting with Jenzabar in 2000, I’ve been interested in working on ways to enhance the Jenzabar client experience. I find that many of our client concerns are around: how to stay current on updates, handling employee turnover, replacing server hardware, staying current with technology, data security and disaster recovery, and data migration.The emergence of virtualization and high-speed internet has created the perfect storm for cloud hosting and remote delivery of managed services. I like that clients can focus on their core competencies and leverage Jenzabar experience and expertise to enhance their overall client service capability.|
|Carina:||In your opinion, what’s the biggest trend in higher education right now?|
|Gus:||The “24×7 everything-is-connected” world that students live in is influencing everything right now. Higher education needs to move faster to meet the technically-connected expectations of their prime stakeholders—their students.This trend is clearly evident here at Jenzabar. In the last year alone, we added 46 higher education institutions to our list of Cloud/Managed Services clients. This wave of schools moving to cloud and managed services to better serve students is just beginning. We expect 2015 to be even bigger.|
|Carina:||How can institutions act upon this trend to better their school?|
|Gus:||Colleges and universities need to honestly assess what they can do themselves and what they need help with if they are to innovate quickly. Schools need to be empowered to leverage the cloud and use managed services to make the most of their internal IT resources, keep their data secure, and optimize current technologies. That will free them to stay focused on their core educational mission. I also encourage CTOs to develop an institution-wide cloud strategy to effectively blend innovative technologies into their existing systems.|
|Carina:||What are you most passionate about when you come to work each day?|
|Gus:||I’m passionate about helping clients find the solutions they need to better serve their students, staff, and faculty. Jenzabar offers outstanding software and service solutions for higher education, and we are committed to ensuring our client’s success.|
|Carina:||Tell us a fun fact about yourself.|
