Developing an Institution-Wide Strategy
The Gartner Group named the cloud a top-ten strategic technology trend for both 2011 and 2012. “Developing an Institution-Wide Cloud Strategy to Help the Institution Select the Right Sourcing and Solution Strategies” has made EDUCAUSE Review’s Top 10 IT Issues for two years running (EDUCAUSE Review, 2013). Many believe cloud computing is one of the biggest technology revolutions in our lifetime.
There is also a major change underway with software applications. The paradigm has shifted to a service model. Software as a Service (SaaS) has quickly evolved from an emerging trend to a game-changer for software developers and users alike. And the move makes sense. According to Gartner research, “The big money and time saver is expected to be the next generation of back-office SaaS.…Interest in SaaS finance, HR, CRM, and student information systems is high among our clients” (The Gartner Group, 2012).
IT professionals are eager to learn how to leverage the cloud and the innovations it has spawned on their campuses.
